Chinese Medicine
To Get the Flu Shot or not to get the Flu Shot????
A little note on the healing benefits of Chinese Medicine. Whether you decide to get the flu shot or not, Chinese Medicine can help your body protect itself from getting sick. Chinese Medicine works by strengthening what is weak, and sedating what is excess. This means that if you get sick often because your immune system is low (weakness), it can help you build up your body's natural defense mechanisms so you have the strength to fight off the flu (excess) with or without help from the flu vaccine.
If you decide not to get the flu shot Chinese Medicine can help you keep your immune system up and your body strong. If you do get the flu shot, it can help make sure you and the flu shot are working together in harmony to keep invaders out. Of course always consult your primary care physician before making any major health decisions.

Holistic Methods to Combat Flu Season

 Flu Season is here

Everywhere you go, there are pale and composed people coughing, hacking and blowing their noses. Patients inundate the offices of allopathic doctors demanding antibiotics, antihistamines decongestants and corticosteroids.

Antibiotics have a purpose. They save millions of lives every year when used properly. Unfortunately the general populous doesn't have a firm grasp of how to properly utilize antibiotics and how often to take them. Antibiotics are indiscriminant killers that destroy the 'good flora' in our systems. Patients wake up in the morning, sniffle, then immediately run to their local family practice physician to demand a prescription antibiotic

This purpose of this article is to inform you about 'preventative medicine'. We want to provide you with several items that you can implement into your daily health regimen to keep you out of the allopathic physician's office. It's a very simple concept. If you take the time to be proactive with your health, provide your immune system with the right tools, you will rarely be sick. If you do feel 'under the weather', your body will respond rapidly and the duration of your illness will be significantly reduced.

Should you get the flu shot or not?

That is really up to you. But there are more options. You could look for an "alternative flu shot", such as Pascoleucyn or Engystol, both homeopathic-like (i.e. low dose, though not no dose) natural remedies. These can be injected by trained and qualified practitioners.

This "alternative flu shot" does not need to be either-or choice. Even if you do also choose to get the conventional seasonal flu shot, you can still also choose to get this one. The conventional flu shot protects against only specific viruses chosen for the year. The alternative flu shot improves immune function as a whole. It stimulates a general immune response. For some, this one shot will help them for 3-4 months. Others with weaker immune systems may need more support with booster shots and perhaps oral supplements to help keep the "bugs" at bay.

There are a number of supplements we could recommend you take after you have officially been bitten by the flu bug including zinc, oregano oil, grape seed extract and elderberry. These are supplements that stimulate the immune system and cause an increase in the production and activity of certain immune cells.

 Quality and Color

Improving your diet can significantly improve your immune system. We strongly suggest you eat organic and

look for color. Nature has provided us with an astounding array of colorful food. The vibrant, natural colors found in fruits and vegetables are a result of compounds called flavonoids.

Flavonoids are powerful antioxidants that support your immune system.

All of us are familiar with the saying, 'Garbage in, garbage out'. If you eat a tremendous amount of sugar and foods high in saturated fat, you're immune system will eventually break down. There's a direct correlation between obesity and immune impairment. Fat should comprise no more than 30% of your total daily calories.

 Probiotics & Your Immune System

You can save yourself trips to the physician's office; significantly reduce the need for prescription medication and energize your immune system with probiotics. If you commit to improving your health through diet (cleaner eating) and exercise, the consumption of probiotics should be a part of your daily ritual.

Probiotics are live and active microorganisms that aid with digestion and offer protection from harmful bacteria. They flood your system with 'good' and 'protective' bacteria. You can take a probiotic supplement or consume foods that have been predigested by bacteria or fungi. Fermented foods such as sauerkraut, yogurt, kefir, cheese, kimchi and tempeh are fantastic sources for natural probiotics.

Green Tea (Grifola frondosa) Looking to boost your immune system? Drink at least three cups of green tea a day. You can find it at the supermarket, online and coffee shops. Green tea is made from unfermented leaves. It has the highest concentration of phytonutrients and the least amount of caffeine of all teas. Green tea's antioxidants, called catechins, scavenge for free radicals. Free radicals are damaging compounds in the body that alter cells, tamper with DNA and cause cell death. Scientists believe that free radicals contribute to the aging process as well as the development of a number of health problems including cance, blood clots and atherosclerosis. The antioxidants in green tea can counteract free radicals and prevent some the damage they cause.

A cup of green tea may help prevent or lessen the duration of the flu.
