Herbal Center and Apothecary
About Us
The PNMC Herbal Center is a collaborative effort of faculty and senior students to bring community herbalism to a population who typically would not be able to afford the cost of a wellness consultation and a personalized herbal preparation. This sliding scale donation-based community wellness clinic offers the services of our supervised student clinic on a weekly basis.
People's Medicine
Herbs have traditionally been an integral part of the home and community, and for this reason they are often referred to as the "people's medicine." In recent time, the role of the community herbalist has waned and the development of herbal medicine as an "alternative" or "complementary" therapy has developed. In this way, herbal medicine has provided a service for a population privileged to be able to pay for their choice of healthcare and subsequently has become out of reach for a large number of individuals. The PHHC seeks to shift the use of herbs back to the hands of the people.
Services
Herbal teas, powders, and liquid extracts are custom-compounded in the Herbal Dispensary according to unique specifications of practitioners who have tailored these products for their clients' individual needs.

Herbal Medicine Offered at
the Phoenix Natural Medicine & Detox Center
Herbal medicine has been used for thousands of years to support the body. Herbalism is the art and science of skillfully collecting, preparing, and utilizing herbs to direct the body towards wellness. Herbs and plants can be prepared and used in many ways. They can be taken internally as tinctures, teas, powders, syrups, or capsules. Externally, they can be applied as lotions, oils, salves, and used in baths.
Why would I see an herbalist?
An experienced herbalist can help make sure the herbs used are safe, of consistent quality, and proportioned appropriately for your needs. Concerns you may have regarding possible interactions with pharmaceutical medications can also be addressed by consulting an educated and experienced practitioner. The herbalist will help you understand the limitations of herbs and provide referrals to appropriate licensed practitioners when necessary.
What Happens During the Consultation?
Your first visit with an herbalist will take approximately 90 minutes. During this time, the practitioner will gather information about your past history, review lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise, discuss your health concerns, and have an opportunity to set goals for your future health. At the end of the visit, the herbalist will make some herbal recommendations.
